| Noah came to CWAC program in 2003 as a special gift from breeder Lisa Grey to fill the roll of Demo Dog for the CWAC Educational & Awareness program. He quickly learned the many tasks that service dogs are trained to do.
During the 5 and 1/2 short years of his life, Noah participated in countless public demonstrations, and events, reaching out to many young and not so young members of the Ottawa-Carleton community and giving them a better understanding on the important role that Service Dogs play in our society. He also participated in therapy visits at the special needs class at the Our Lady of Peace elementary school. Noah's teaching went beyond his presentations. When it was time to teach a young pup how to pick up a dime, all they had to do is watch him do it with enthusiasm and getting a reward from it, and next the puppy in training felt it was definitely worth a try. This helped a great deal as dogs are very observant and they can learn from one another. Sadly, on November 6th Noah was taken to the nearest animal hospital after becoming very ill. Doctors from 3 local hospitals tried to decipher what he was suffering but unable to get any results, a week later, and while getting gradually in worse condition, we brougth Noah to an off site animal hospital at Saint-Hyacinthe PQ, to see specialists. There, he was hospitalized while they continue the round the clock effort to help him out. Five days later, and with great sorrow, Noah had to be euthanized as his body was not responding to any treatment. Noah's last 5 days were spent hospitalized in the ICU at Saint-Hyacinthe PQ. He was receiving pain killers by injection every 4 hours, and IV fluids. Noah was seen by over a dozen different veterinarians, (some of them specialists and professors at the Saint-Hyacinthe PQ) and in the effort to find a cure for him, he had many medical tests done. With a heavy heart, we took the advice of the experts and with loving familiar faces by his side, Noah left us on Tuesday of November 18th, 2008. Noah touched many hearts. Many of those are now expressing the sorrow and grief to have had him here for such a short time. Even in death, Noah managed to teach the students from the Faculty of Veterinarian medicine at Saint-Hyacinthe, PQ, who observed the autopsy done by professors with the hope to learn what had happened, and hopefully find if in the future there could be something that could be done to save the life of another dog/s. We are left with a big emptiness, and unfortunately many vet bills. Some of Noah's friends have kindly started a "Friends of Noah Fund" campaign to help raise funds in his memory to help cover the expensive medical treatment he received. Please consider making a donation in memory of Noah to help reach our goal. A very special thank you goes to Dr. Walter from Blair Animal Hospital (Noah's vet since he was a puppy), who has been extra caring during this difficult period and made possible that he would receive the care he needed with specialized equipment and expertise. And to the staff at EternalCompanions.ca for their sensible and caring service with Noah. Also, we wish to thank all of you who have sent us wonderful words of sympathy and donations in Noah's memory. NOAH January 25, 2003 - November 18, 2009 Run free of any pain once again. We miss you, Noah. You will always be in our hearts. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friends of Noah's Fund Campaign Help raise funds to cover the vet costs for Noah.
